Departure

by Gabriella Sonabend

I barely slept last night, as always before I go away for a while. I woke almost every hour and for the first time in months I awoke to the sound of heavy London rain. I feel certain that I have forgotten to pack something crucial but of course I couldn’t say what. Someone else will be moving into my bedroom tomorrow and will be living there for the next few months. I have a few hours left to finish packing away my possessions, to have a final panic and to enjoy the cloudy white calcium heavy tap water from my kitchen.
